Finding the printers

Printer was not found automatically

Check if the printer is on, WiFi is on, and the phone is in the same WiFi network with the printer. If it still does not work, you'll have to use intermediate desktop client. Printers may be undetected for a number of reasons, even if they are included in our supported printers list.

The app says "We did not find the driver for the exact model of your printer".

This means the Driver Pack we have for PrinterShare currently does not have your exact printer model supported. You can try using generic driver instead (recommended, in most cases will work OK but in B/W only).

Printout is garbage / black&white only

This means the driver selected by PrinterShare is not working correctly for your printer. Use intermediate desktop client to skip PrinterShare internal drivers.

SD-card related error when installing Driver Pack?

Driver Pack is installed on SD card. First, make sure your phone does have a working SD card with at least 8 MB of free space (most phones do). Second, make sure the SD card is mounted to the phone. In case you plugged in your phone to a computer via cable and mounted the SD card to the computer (so that you are able to see the card as additional driver on the computer), the card is no longer available on the phone. To resolve that, unmount (eject on Mac) the card on the computer, unplug the cable and switch the phone off and then on. After that, repeat installation the Driver Pack. If not present, it automatically (with the prompt) gets installed when you try Nearby Printing.

Can you add a driver for (my printer)?

We are using third-party driver packs. They get updated from time to time, but it's hard to tell if any particular printer will be supported any time soon.

Can you guarantee PrinterShare will work with (my printer)?

No. We don't have all possible printer models in our posession, and can only run tests on a limited number of devices. To tell if PrinterShare will work with your specific printer, you need to try it on free edition first, at least print a test page on it.

I've installed the desktop client, but phone failed to find it

Check if Nearby service in desktop client is on.

Nearby service in desktop client is off

You need Bonjour installed and running to support Nearby service. Bonjour installer is included in PrinterShare client for Windows; it is also available from Apple website. Also, in your Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services, you should see "Bonjour service" as "started".

Printing

How to print email attachments?

You can print Gmail attachments. Open email with attachment, then select Preview and choose Open with. PrinterShare should be in the list of options.

Can I print from (another e-mail client)?

No, only from Gmail.

"Broken pipe" error?

This is a temporary connectivity error. Make sure you have a decent Internet connection and try again.

"PDF render error 11"?

This is a known error. We are still working to find out the causes for it and will try to provide the fix in next releases.

When opening certain word documents I get various Docs Render errors. What does it mean and what do I do?

These document rendering errors occur when trying to print documents created/modified with mobile office applications. The errors should not occur for microsoft office created/saved files. At the moment only OfficeSuite Pro doc (not docx) files are rendered without errors. We are working on resolving this issue, please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

There are a few workarounds you can take using Google Docs to print these files. First you need to download and install Google Docs app from the market (free). In general, any free file manager app (ASTRO is a good one, or a built in one will do if you have it) has a 'send' or 'share' feature which you can use to upload your documents to your Google Docs account. To do so tap and hold on the document in the file manager, select 'send' (or share) and select Docs (as in Google Docs); then select the proper account and make sure to check the conversion option. Once the file is uploaded it can be printed from the Google Docs selection in PrinterShare app.

Some of the mobile office apps have internal ways to upload the file to Google Docs.

In Docs to Go open the file, choose file/send/docs (as in google docs app). Make sure to mark an option to convert to google docs format. You need to have Google Docs app installed for this. A second option is to open the file with Docs to Go, choose file/save as/tap on location and select Google Docs, login to your account and save. You will then be able to print the file from printershare using Google Docs option.

In Quickoffice add your Google Docs account by going to QuickOffice main page and choosing Accounts/Google Docs. Open the file, choose file/save as and select your desired Google Docs account in the 'Save in' list, save.

Premium Key

Will (something) work if I'll pay for the app?

Limitations of PrinterShare for Android are fully described here. If you found something else that doesn't work, it will not work in paid version either. You can open a help ticket and let us know what's wrong.

I purchased the Premium Key, but cannot launch or even find it in the list of apps.

The Premium Key is not a regular app, it just unlocks PrinterShare premium features. As long as you have the key on your phone, the main app will be unlocked. The key is not visible among icons of all the other applications. To ensure you have it, go to Android's main screen, press the Menu button, navigate to Settings / Applications / Manage Applications and find PrinterShare Premium Key.

I purchased the Premium Key, but now I lost it. How do I get it back?

Use your transaction # (starting with PS1-...) to re-generate the download link.

Page Limit is still there after I bought the Premium Key?

That's the expected behavior. PrinterShare on desktop will still show the limit, but it will know when you are sending from upgraded device, and will not decrease your Page Limit for it. If you have another phone without Premium Key installed, documents from that phone will still spend pages.
